The Safety Dance with Dancing Blue Shirt Guy

By HoliBlogger Michael G.

I think any dancer or choreographer would agree; you don’t need music to dance. As an example, I will test this theory on the dancers out there reading this.

Boom cack. Boom shoom-shoom. Click slap pap. Hah ugh ahhh!

My dancers out there get everything I just said. We can hear sounds in nature to a car alarm and create movements to match.

My first step in this whole process was creating a unique vibe for each routine that matches the different themes of the coasters.

The Raven must have a soaring but dark vibe. The Legend should be mysterious and intense. The Voyage is a hopeful and moving storyline.

Now that I nailed down the vibe, how can I match these to movements?

Choreography is one of my favorite things to do, but it can also be work. In this case, my challenge was to have three routines feel and look different even though some of the audio was consistent amongst the three coasters. You must keep your arms and legs in the car at all times. You must remain seated. And you MUST enjoy your ride. They keep you safe, but I’ve got to get you moving.

Let’s fast-forward to filming day.

I have my routines ready, my season pass handy, and my blue shirt on… it’s showtime!

I met with the social media team early that morning and they led me into the park before opening. That in itself was a childhood dream. It felt so cool to see the park so still, so quiet.

We started at The Raven, then The Legend, then The Voyage. It was a scorcher of a day so I tried so hard to nail the routine in under 5 attempts. Keyword: tried. Some took me a few tries to get right, but everyone was so accommodating and kind as I shook my booty thru the park. We filmed right up to the gates opening, and luckily, no Guests saw me struggling, I mean dancing, in the park.

The secret mission was accomplished!

I hope everyone enjoys these dances as much as I enjoyed creating them. I am so thankful to everyone at Holiday World who entrusted me with this artistic venture.

Happy Holidays!

Dancingly Yours,

Michael Galyean aka The Dancing Blue Shirt Guy
